Asian Hornet Confirmed in Cornwall

Today (5th Sep) we have confirmed an outbreak of Asian hornet in Fowey, South Cornwall.  Two specimens of the hornets were trapped on August 31st by a beekeeper.  The contingency plan has been implemented and the National Bee Unit at APHA are leading the response.  Unlike the previous records this year (for a ferry between Poole and Cherbourg in August and in Bury in April) it is likely that this represents a nest.  The main objective of the response is now to locate and destroy the nest as soon as possible.
