Dog Fouling – What Can We Do?
While we recognise that the vast majority of dog owners in our community are responsible, we are also fully aware that a small minority are not. In some cases dog mess has been trodden into unsuspecting residents carpets. It has also caused incidents involving children.
We also ask all of our residents to be mindful of risks to livestock – by both uncontrolled dogs, and the far from pleasant ‘by-products’ left behind.
We work with the County Council to try to maintain our streets and recreational areas.
The law enables orders to be made regarding cleaning up after a dog, the designation of dog exclusion zones, the designation of ‘dogs on leads’ areas and the control of a fixed number of dogs to be taken out for walks at anyone time. A fixed penalty ticket or prosecution in the Magistrates Court may await anyone who is seen to break these orders.
Please report incidences of dog-fouling to the Dog Warden Service at: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/environmental-health/dog-warden-service.aspx
