Folk from across Dorset joined our Blackmore Vale group cycle ride in Sept, visiting a variety of ancient and lovely church buildings and raising funds in support of Dorset Historic Churches Trust. Yes it rained again this year, but it did not dampen our spirits even the third puncture repair – a proficient team by then!
Our ten strong group cycled 18miles and visited 8 churches, raising £272. with gift aid added making £300.+ some sponsors but mostly from riders donating for a fun day out with free drinks and biscuits!
Imagine what we might have raised if you had swelled our ranks!
Riders can chose a particular church or any other charity to receive half their donation and St Andrew’s Okeford Fitzpaine will get £57. this year so thank you.
Next year, I hope to work with DHCT and engage with a wider community across the Vale to get more people cycling for this wonderful event and cause. It was sad we only had two women this year – we had planned a shorter option to encourage the less able to join in so now is the time to be thinking ahead for Sept ’18 as cycling is a year round activity which maintains fitness and health throughout the winter.
If you dont yet have the confidence or ability to cycle a bike on road, then help is here: www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/adult-cycle and contact me.
